Chateau Lions Lamartine Gaillac 2019 ‘Light, delicate white for spring sipping’

Chateau Lions Lamartine Gaillac Blanc 2019. This wine is from a family property near Albi in the Tarn region of South West France. The vines are some 25 years old and grow on sandy soil by the banks of the river Tarn. The juice is a mixture of 50% Muscadelle, 40% Loin de l’Oeil and 10% Mauzac. The resulting wine, which matures on fine lees (the cells of yeast left after fermentation), is very light and delicate and should not be drunk too cold. But, brought chilled from the fridge and warmed a little in the hands, the glass will reveal hints of apricot and white flowers. There’s a crispness to it which makes it a lively wine, but above all it’s a happy drink for very pleasant sipping. Alc 12%. Cork.
